Cleveland police officers involved in last November’s deadly high speed car chase that ended in the firing of 137 bullets at an unarmed black couple, will remain on the force despite being found guilty of breaking policy.
Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGrath said Tuesday that a series of disciplinary hearings surrounding the chase found 64 officers guilty of “administrative charges ranging from excessive speed to insubordination.”
However, “No one will be fired, and the longest suspension will be 10 days,” reports 19 Action News, adding that several officers were cleared of any wrongdoing.
The car chase was provoked by a car backfire, which police mistook for a gunshot aimed at officers. In the end, the bodies of Timothy Russell, 43, and Malissa Williams, 30, were riddled with two dozen bullet holes each, and almost immediately, they were painted by police and the media as career criminals who had it coming.
With the incident still under review by the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, it remains to be seen whether criminal charges will be filed against any of the dozens of officers involved.
Rania – Thank you for another depressing episode of police brutality. When it comes to police discipline, once again it’s protect their own over justice.

October 16, 2013 at 12:49 pmCops shouldnt be allowed to have guns in this country. They’re too trigger happy and they kill
on the slightest provocation. They always shoot to kill, never to just maim.

October 16, 2013 at 11:31 pmSickens me – literally, in the gut sickens – to read of this and know that I am only seeing a small tip of the problem. I brought a bi-racial daughter into the world three decades ago and her life has been very hard because of her light brown skin. People don’t even see the kind, smart, funny, compassionate, intellectual there-only her skin color and it sickens me when she is dismissed or ignored or openly discriminated against for no other reason. And this BS of just killing blacks for no fucking reason just makes me so – sad, upset, angry… Yet helplessness also falls into the picture… What can I, a grandmother of several and care provider for a few, do to institute any kind of change~! Beyond setting a good example and teaching what I believe to be the truth, I have so little effect on the world.

October 18, 2013 at 8:36 pmYes- a lot of innocent people get shot these days, it seems. I think a lot of hysteria and bad law came out of 9-11, in law enforcement. Miriam Carey, the driver in DC – it seems to me she was just panicked and confused. She didn’t try to hurt anyone, and I’ll bet if they just gave her some space, they didn’t point a lot of guns at her, she might have talked to a friendly cop and been Ok. The cops in the US now are way too militarized- like in the Boston marathon lockdown. We don’t need a police state, we need, as Chris Hedges says on YouTube, a non violent revolution to get the big corps to give us back control of our government. So we can repeal the Patriot acts, roll back the NSA, and make bad cops pay for executing innocent people !!!

First they came for the Muslims, and I did not speak out–
Because I was not a Muslim.
Then they came for the activists, and I did not speak out–
Because I was not an activist.
Then they came for the journalists and whistleblowers, and I did not speak out–
Because I was not a journalist or a whistleblower.
Then they came for me–and there was no one left to speak for me.
