According to an article by Raw Story, the US Department of Education sent a SWAT team (that’s right a SWAT team!) to the home of Kenneth Wright to — collect his wife’s unpaid student loans.
Acting on orders from the U.S. Department of Education, a S.W.A.T. team broke into a California home Tuesday at 6 a.m. and reportedly roughed up a man — all because of his estranged wife’s defaulted student loans. She wasn’t there.
Yet, Kenneth Wright of the city of Stockton was grabbed by the neck by handcuffed before he and his three young children were put in a police car as the officers searched his house, he told ABC News10. He said he was in his underwear the whole time.
“They busted down my door for this. It wasn’t even me,” Wright told the local news station. “All I want is an apology for me and my kids and for them to get me a new door.”
Local police were reportedly not involved in the incident.
This behavior is outrageous! Has the Department of Education been watching too many mafia movies? Because these are the tactics of brutal thugs. However, if this is the new routine for those who fail to pay back their government loans, will SWAT teams be ordered to bust into the homes of Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein, Brian Moynihan of Bank of America, Vikram Pandit of Citigroup or any of the other banks and massive corporations that were bailed out with our taxpayer dollars, even after trashing our economy and paying next to nothing in federal income taxes? Don’t hold your breath.
I SUSPECT we’re missing some of the story here…but it’s a real sign of the times when something THIS outrageous is actually reasonably believable.

May 22, 2012 at 11:37 amJust show how arrogant and random the powers that be in their treatment of the people are becoming. … will the people never ever find a way to stand up and fight them?
June 8, 2011 at 4:37 pmThis is happening all over the US! Law enforcement is becoming more violent and suppressive! I wilget some more info on this…but I have heard about these new police programs going on in almost every state! Israel and American police arehaving joint training programs and Israeli trainers are trying to get American police and SWAT to behave like the Israelis do with the Palestinians. These are essentially Israeli tactics!

The story is clearly false.
The real issue here is why are we so credulous?
June 13, 2011 at 3:51 pmDebtor prisons.
Google it to see the progress they’ve already made in different parts of the country in establishing de facto debtor prisons.
Soon they will institute them on a federal level.
Can’t pay your debts? Work it off in prison. And you won’t be working for minimum wage. It will be much less. And they will legally be allowed to tack on fees in the thousands, as they already do.
Basically if you get sent there, you will be there for a very long time.
June 18, 2011 at 8:06 pmFollowed the link.
There is an update.
“UPDATE: The Department of Education emailed Raw Story with a comment from spokesman Justin Hamilton to say the search warrant and raid were related to a criminal investigation, not a student loan default. The ABC affiliate has yanked its story that made the now seemingly false claim.
“While it was reported in local media that the search was related to a defaulted student loan, that is incorrect. This is related to a criminal investigation. The Inspector General’s Office does not execute search warrants for late loan payments,” Hamilton said. “Because this is an ongoing criminal investigation, we can’t comment on the specifics of the case.””
I still stand by earlier comments based on what IS happening in other parts of the country.
Debtor prisons will happen.
