UPDATE: Homicidal ex-cop was fired from LAPD for making false statements despite evidence to back his claims

The AP provided some details surrounding Dorner’s firing:

According to documents from a court of appeals hearing in October 2011, Dorner was fired from the LAPD after he made a complaint against his field training officer, Sgt. Teresa Evans. Dorner said that in the course of an arrest, Evans kicked suspect Christopher Gettler, a schizophrenic with severe dementia.

Richard Gettler, the schizophrenic man’s father, gave testimony that supported Dorner’s claim. After his son was returned on July 28, 2007, Richard Gettler asked “if he had been in a fight because his face was puffy” and his son responded that he was kicked twice in the chest by a police officer.

An internal investigation by the police department detrained that Dorner was lying. Regardless of whether or not he was wronged by the LAPD, nothing excuses his killing rampage. Still, it does appear that this was a case of one officer’s word against another and police aren’t exactly known for holding their own accountable.

We may never know if Dorner was telling the truth about his training officer only to be fired as a result and it certainly doesn’t justify his homicidal reaction. But there is no doubt that police whistleblowers are targeted when they snitch whereas corrupt officers typically get away with abusive behavior.

Update (2:00pm EST): Search for ex-cop extended statewide and into Nevada

Authorities have expanded the search for Christopher Dorner, an ex-LAPD officer who has gone on a killing spree he outlined in an online Manifesto. The Los Angeles Times reports:

The California Highway Patrol originally issued a “blue alert” for nine Southern California counties, warning that suspect Christoper Jordan Dorner, 33, was considered “armed and extremely dangerous,” early Thursday. Shortly after 9 a.m. that alert was broadened to the include the entire state.

A statewide “high alert” was sent out about 8:30 a.m. across Nevada for Dorner, authorities with the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

Arizona authorities were aware of the situation but had not issued any formal alerts, said Officer Carrick Cook with the state’s Department of Public Safety.

The Times added that local, state and federal agencies have joined in the manhunt.

The suspect, 33-year-old Christopher Jordan Dorner, is on the run after shooting 5 people in the past several days, 3 of which died. All were intentionally targeted.

Dorner was a highly decorated police officer and a navy reservist. Buzzfeed reports that he served and received sniper training in Afghanistan in 2006 and KTLA reports he’s “known to be a skilled sniper”.

Today is the anniversary of hiring, reports the LA Times, suggesting that the timing of his killing spree is symbolic.

His first victim was Cal State Fullerton assistant women’s basketball coach 28-year-old Monica Quan and her fiancé, 27-year-old Keith Lawrence. Quan’s father was the lawyer who represented Dorner in front of a disciplinary review board when he was fired.

There is a multi-agency manhunt taking place in Los Angeles right now for a former decorated LAPD officer and Navy Reservist who has gone on a killing rampage to get revenge on the people he says destroyed his life.

In trying to capture/kill him the LAPD has shot two innocent women. The victims were said to have been delivering newspapers in a pick-up truck that resembles the suspect’s vehicle.  Details about their condition has yet to be released.

The suspect, Christopher Dorner was fired in 2009 for allegedly making false statements about a fellow officer who he claimed was involved in police brutality. Nearly four years later, he’s out for revenge and published a 20 page manifesto on Facebook explaining the reasons behind his actions, including LAPD corruption and racial discrimination.

So far, Dorner is suspected of shooting and killing a college basketball coach and her fiancé over the weekend. The LA Times reports that he targeted the young woman because Randy Quan [her father], a retired LAPD captain, was involved in the review process that ultimately led to Dorner’s dismissal.” In his manifesto, Dorner wrote of those who got him fired:

“Your lack of ethics and conspiring to wrong a just individual are over. Suppressing the truth will lead to deadly consequences for you and your family. There will be an element of surprise where you work, live, eat, and sleep….I never had the opportunity to have a family of my own, I’m terminating yours.”

Dorner also shot three Riverside County police officers last night, killing one.
